I feel so sorry for Ellen Degeneres, don't you?!

Question: My husband and I rescued our dog we have now from the Humane Society. Her name at the HS was Sushi. We brought her home and made her part of our family. She is now known as Lucy Belle. She IS part of our family.

What Ellen did is what any respectable, loving, caring person SHOULD do. She gave a dog a home when she couldn't care for the animal herself.

This Mom and Mutts organization, or whatever they call themselves, is doing the wrong thing. I wish I could have adopted all of the animals at the Humane Society. Instead, I could only take the one.

I really hope that they give the dog back and apologize to the little girls. Overlook what happened and realize that Ellen did what she did out of the goodness of her heart and did so without realizing that the organization would take the dog away.

The adoption agency couldn't visit the pup in its new home and do the paperwork there; rather than ripping the puppy away from its home??? This poor puppy has been through enough already, the agency could have a heart, no matter who gave the dog away, a celeb or not. That's not the issue. The agency overreacted and is putting that pup through more trauma than is necessary, if the agency had a brain/heart behind it. This pup is going to need a lot of love and nurturing after this agency gets done with it. I realize there was on oversight on Ellen's part by not reading the contract, and that was not smart and as you can see she is very sorry, but there has to be a better way than putting dogs through this trauma.

That idiotic organization just gave themselves a black eye. I know they had the rule in place for a reason but the way they handled the situation is just giving them bad press. I would not be suprised if a group of people go to their place and picket. If that happens, I would not be suprised either if Ellen Degeneres comes out and asks people to not do that. She can be classy like that at times.

huh? what happened?

Ellen did admit to not having fully read the contract she signed when she adopted the dog. But it is not as if she set the dog loose on the street or took it to another shelter. She found a good and loving home for the dog. The Moms and Mutts Society (or whoever they are) should learn that in some cases it is appropriate to make exceptions to rules. Give the dog back.

Ellen spent over $3000 dollars on this dog and gave it to a family that she KNEW! You'd better believe they're gonna take the dog back now that she's invested all of that money into it. Ellen should get a lawyer. Pet adoption people are weird anyway. They want to dictate who gets a dog and what kind of dog and what can happen to you if you do this or that!!! Screw them!! There's too many animal lovers out there to treat people that way.

Not one bit. Why feel sorry for Ellen? She gave the dog away, it is the little girls that have been effected, if all that is true.
Ellen was negligent by not reading the terms of the contract.

I agree...I hope Iggy goes back to the home where she was lovingly cared for instead of in some shelter

Most people know what a huge animal lover she is
she is always trying to help strays or what ever kind of animal that needs help she did the right thing she made sure the dog had a loving family shame on the rescue shelter that took the dog away ..such a sad situation for everyone around..

Having 2 dogs that came from abusive homes. I was glad to hear that Ellen did the right thing by trying to find a loving home. I dont understand why this organization needs to be so critical about the situation...the whole part of the dog rescue means to find loving homes

I get so annoyed with these shelters. They claim they want to find homes for these animals and then make it impossible for people. I wanted to adopt a kitten from one of these rescue places where I live (in Canada), It would have cost me something like $225 to adopt this cat. Sorry, but the only way I would pay that for a kitten is if it came with papers and was a purebred. I never see any people giving kittens away free in the classifieds either. And they're not even a breed!!

I totally agree. she was only trying to be nice and do something special for those two little girls. Its not like the dog went to some place horrible it went to a terrific home by the sounds of it. people are so cold hearted. what if your dog was taken away from you. how would you feel? i know if someone ever tried to take my dogs away from me i would be crying for weeks. i know you can always get a new dog. but you get so attached their like your brother or sister. your pets are your family!?

I don't feel sorry for Ellen, no. I feel sorry for the little girls though, because the organization overreacted to the ultimate degree. Ellen did not read all of the terms, sure, but usually it is made clear by REPUTABLE rescue groups that they would like to be called if you cannot keep your dog. It should have been told to her verbally as well. When I adopted a cat, the contract was gone over with me by the group verbally.

But here's the thing. I tried to adopt a 10 lb puppy, essentially a toy miniature schnauzer from a group that will remain nameless. In the ad, the group described the puppy as an INDOOR dog. When I inquired about the dog and started filling out an application, they claimed the dog absolutely need a fenced yard. WTF? If the dog is an indoor dog, by definition it doesn' t need a yard. It wasn't going to get any bigger (he was 10 mos old). I had another doggy at home (7 mos), and just couldn't believe the strange demands of this group! The whole idea is to find a loving, suitable family for a dog, not find ways to make the adoption process as unpleasant as possible for people wanting to open their homes to pets in need. Shame on these organizations! From now on, I will circumvent the whole process by going to the pound and rescuing my own freakin dogs. Forget these people, I can do it myself!

At any rate, the home sounded like a good home, that's the whole idea right??? Give Iggy back to those little girls. Just shameless. Go over there, inspect the home if you need to, then let the mother sign a contract. Geez!

I've adopted all my animals from the shelter for the last 20 years and we all have to sign saying that if we don't keep the animal then we'll turn in back into the agency. It's to keep people from putting helpless animals into unsafe or unsuitable homes.

Why should she be exempt from the rules if she's a celebrity? It's for the animals' protection, to keep people from "dumping" unwanted pets on unsuitable homes. People who don't want an animal are often more interested in getting rid of their "problem" than insuring that the poor beast is truly getting a good home.

If the hairdresser and her kids want the dog, let them go down to the shelter and apply to adopt it themselves! If they really are fit and proper people to provide a suitable home, the agency will decide and not Ellen Degeneres.
