Tommy Cooper : The Funniest Comedian & Worst Magician ?!

Question: For those that remember his one liners, they were on another level, he could make even the worst joke sound extremely funny, he laughed at all of his joke, his tricks that sometimes never worked (on purpose) were ahead of his time and his timing was almost to perfection...

But, was he the very best and most talented comedian ?

Whatever the answer the world is a less funny place without him and I'm not sure we will ever see anyone else like him again...

He came at a time when there were lots of funny guys around who were making the transition from stage to TV
yes he was funny and was one of those guys who didn't have to utter a word and you could laugh at his antics
He was actually a very proficient magician but one one occasion a trick went wrong and the audience laughed so much he kept the mistake in , and gradually built an act around his failing magic
Like a lot of these talented people he a had a bit of a turbulent life away from stage and TV with drink and a mistress , but that did not take away from him being a great act which is still finny to this day on TV repeats .
May his soul rest in peace.

Eric Morecombe always said he was the funniest.

he was different,

i will never forget his trick with all the wine bottles where he filled a whole table of em, even tho they were like hollowed out bottles made to look like real ones.

also his camel skin coat joke. hilarious.

and the way he went....well i dont think he could of had a better way to go, such was his humour, the audience thought it was a joke.

bloody genius.

Both. Hated him when I was growing up, but looking at the archives really makes me laugh. Check these beauties out

He was, as you say, on a different level.

The jokes are really lame, but when Tommy delivers them he has you rolling about on the floor! That's a kind of magic.

What a guy....cracked me up every time.
The way he stood behind the curtains and moved them and then appeared with his hair stuck up......good that is.

The funny thing was that he tried to be a magician and studied his tricks for many hours, this somehow made it all the funnier.

No matter how many years pass Tommy Cooper will always be a funny slapstick and daft comedian who made the world a brighter place.......not like this...like that!!!!!!

There is no one to compare Tommy Cooper to he was just one on his own!
The only one that comes close to Tommy Cooper nowadays is Lee Evans he is just hysterical.

"You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine.' "
Tommy Cooper

need I say anymore, cheesy as cheese but funny as fook!

x

A fair comedian, but an expert magician, think about all of the tricks that he purposely messed up. It takes a genius to do that effectively, every now and then he would pull of an amazing magical trick, a great performer ! I like to think he would have loved the way he went out !

He was very funny. He made you laugh just by standing on the stage - I saw him live a couple of times. But he wasn't the worst magician - he was a very talented magician and member of the Magic Circle who deliberatley got his tricks wrong - and then sometimes got one right just to show you

I only have to look at him and I laugh

I saw him live at Bailey's in Watford,He didn't even have to say anything he was just so funny just looking at him and his gestures ,I laughed so much my chin ached.Clever magician and so funny with his one liners.
Lovely man.

There is noone to compare him to now (nor has there ever been as far as I am aware. He is so unique, this makes him my personal best.

PS. My uncle Les is the spitting image of him. Talks the same too and has the same bad jokes..........!
