Top Gear - breaking the law?!

Question: Not being a lawyer, I don't know if Clarkson and May broke the "thou shalt not smoke in the workplace" law on last nights show.

Personally, I hope they did and in the process of puffing away on their Porsche pipes, managed to raise two fingers to the anti-smoking lobby. It was quite an amusing piece anyway, especially when Jezza put the wrong end in his big mouth.

When Mel Smith threatened to light up on stage in Edinburgh last year, the Council threatened to close down the theatre and fine them £1000 for the privilege. Mel didn't spark up.

So - what does everyone reckon?

End of the day it is against the law to smoke in a work place, and but then again it is Top Gear and they are usually do anything to cause a storm to the PC Bridgade. But thats why I like the show so much.
When was the programme filmed???
i reckon you need to get a life
Yes I did think of that when I watched it last night, but they could probably get away with anything if they can drive a car across the sea to France. That Clarkson's got the biggest gob ever, but I do think he's funny though.
They were not tobacco pipes?
Lol I thought the same thing! What about sinking random things in the English channel? Thats surely got to break some rule!
bonzo more like bozo who realy cares it didnt affect me and i dont think anyone from the show complained
Ah yes the pipe thing - that was hilarious. I wondered too whether it was illegal.
It depends who's property it was, do we know that?
Gem might have it in that it could have been filmed some time back.

There is also the grey area of 'smoking' in that if it wasn't tobacco in the pipe but a substitue then was it classed as smoking under the ban?
There must have been a discussion about this and a loop hole found.

Brilliant show, and it seems i'm one of the few who really likes all 3 presenters including Mr Clarkson.
does anyone really care.
about 6 Years ago I went to Edinburgh I loved it beautiful place. Great bars no one seemed to mind anyone smoking.

I decided to go back with my wife we looked to book some hotels. The hotels looked really nice and the prices were pretty low too I was a bit shocked at how low compared to other major cities in England. So she tried to book a smoking room we both smoke... we were told you can't smoke in any hotel in Edinburgh???

That means basically we will never go to Edinburgh ever. Bit of a shame really but to be honest I find it offensive to be treated in such a fashion and be charged for it at the same time.

Before people start jumping on the secondary smoke wagon they should look up the facts. The main study was carried out by the world health organisation and was statistically found to be inconclusive - the margin of error was more than probability of it being detrimental to health. The politicians didn't like this and put pressure on the researchers to validate it anyway. Many of the top researchers walked out as they felt it was unethical. They enforced the huge assumptions anyway.

The only way second hand smoke can affect you is if you live with it every day in enclosed spaces.

People just don't like the smell - well I don't like the smell of perfume and booze on people or Salad cream it makes me sick. Are we going to ban that too?

Every choice we take away from people is another chip out of the Liberty stone.
i don't really care cos jezza was so funny when he put the wrong end of the pipe in his mouth

top gear is my favourite show check out these videos and other stuff

it is normally filmed about 4 days before it goes on air (thursday) i know i went to the light weight supercars one (last week
Gem* asks a good question worth considering.
lol i thoght d same 2. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... im skipping.
i think that it may of been filmed before the law came in.
I thought that too but i love the show so i don't care
Yeh i think it was filmed a while ago. I love Topgear anyway and Clarkson trying out the pipe was so funny. Poor captain slow i felt so sorry for him attempting to cross the channel. Hamster getting killed by the waves. Clarkson being smug as usual... what i want to know is who is the stig?
does it really matter if they did, its a stupid law anyway!!
Not sure if this applies to non-fiction programmes, but actors are allowed to smoke if the plot of the play/film/etc states that they should.
I think your sad and need to get a life
yeah loved it, I'm sure they will get away with it, Jeremy doesn't give a sh#t anyway.
clarkson doesn't give a damn about the pc brigade anyway. it was hilarious to watch though.
