I think you're talking about a U.S. TV show called WISHBONE. It was about a jack russell terrier that dressed up and went on fairy tale adventures. It was live action, right?
Hmmm a bit confusing. It does remind me of 2 shows. One is the animated stories/fairy tales as told by Mr. Peabody and Sherman from Rocky and Bullwinkle. The other is Wishbone, the title of the show and a smart dog who narrates famous plays and stories (playing the part of the hero, of course) within the episode.
