Traveler wasn't really canceled as it was dead out of the gate. When the people at ABC saw it, they decided that it wasn't exactly what they were looking for, so they burned off the episodes in the summer. The decision had already been made that it was never going to come back, even before the first episode aired. (Perhaps it could have been renewed if it had outstanding ratings, but not that many people watched it, so that was a moot point.)

the ratings must not have been what the company needed to compete with other networks.
it is too bad though i really loved that show.
