Are gameshows staged?!

Question: Last night we were watching deal or no deal and my dad told me that all the contestants were told how to act and how much they were going to win and the rest was for entertainment. He told me Jeapordy was as well. This ruins yet another type of TV shows for me, Im about done with TV. Is this true that gameshows are staged?

They are and they aren't.

Back years ago, there was a primetime gameshow on called Quiz Show. It finally came out that the show was a hoax. All the contestants were given the answers beforehand.

Sure, Deal and Jeopardy could be staged shows, but Jeopardy has been on the air a long time. If it were scripted and people were given the answers ahead of time it would have come out in the media already.

I watch Jeopardy when I can. The people on there are intelligent and they do know their stuff (otherwise you'd catch a lot of mispronounciations.)
No, I do not believe that at all. There may be some shows out there that are, but not Jeopardy and Deal or No Deal.
Most of the time, they are.
Most of the time, no... but there are people who are "professional game show contestants" - these are people who go on all kinds of different game shows and that's how they make their living. The producers pick people that they think will be entertaining and might encourage certain contestants to be more lively or whatever for entertainment purposes - they don't want boring people on there...

Back in the late 60s my parents tried out for the Newlywed Game but they didn't make it on the air because they were too boring (no stupid answers, no hitting each other with the poster board they had their answers on, etc.) but my mom's friend made it on with her husband. They were entertaining for sure - they were also divorced by the time the show aired!

I also have a friend who was on the Weakest Link - they did not feed answers or anything like that but chose her because she is an interesting & fun person.
The newer game shows like Deal or No Deal and 1 vs. 100 are more rigged than other game shows. Watch them for several weeks--tape them if you can--and listen for key phrases that might be repeated before someone opens a high-dollar case, answers a question incorrectly, or has to use a help.
I believe that they are! Especially Deal or No Deal! I think that they already have it set on how much money they are going to let people win. Just like the casinos!
