It was broadcast in Chicago from the WGN studio. It was a franchise, so other stations bought it and showed it throughout the country.
Oliver was the other clowns name...I think.
Yes there were pies involved.
there was a third clown too, short fat one that was on from time to time, what the heck was his name.

I remember when I was pregnant with my first child, I ordered tickets to the show, she was NINE by the time I got the tickets.

Hang on a sec, I'll look for a link..

i know he had a friend named cookie and the show was on wgn out of chicago.
You might be talking about Cookie but he was sort of fat. It must be the wizard guy your referring too.

The show ran until the early 00s when it was taken off the air. They had a game where if you through a ball into a number of buckets you'd win a prize.

I went when I was a little kid. The show use to take place in Chicago. I was one number away from being picked. I still wish I was able to go on.

There was a dog that read mail from viewers. Cream pies were always thrown at the end of the show. It aired on WGN in Chicago.
I REMEMBER BOZO,I THINK IT WAS ON PBS I KNOW IT WAS TAPED IN CHICAGO,ON DEC 8 1997 BOZO WHO'S REAL NAME WAS BOB BELL PASSED AWAY.IF YOU GOOGLE BOZO THE CLOWN YOU LL GET LOTS OF STORIES!!GOOD LUCK
OK, I'm killin 'em with you!! Was it Oopsy? Mr.Greenjeans?...Naw, that was Captain Kangaroo... I remember alotta cream pies. Was there anything else besides PBS? I bet you remember when at 12:00 midnite, first the National Anthem, then the "snow" on TV and black 'n white, no color TV...
To the person above me...Oopsy The Clown was a different show. In Detroit, we had Milky The Clown. The actor who played him broke some kid's arm during a live broadcast....he was immediately fired, the actor returned to television a few years later as Oopsy The Clown.

Bozo's friend was Cookie, It was on WGN Chicago...I'm sure there was a share of cream pies being thrown.
