Get tickets to the show on your sons b-day and during the warm up (before they start shooting the show) let them know its your sons b-day as well. Heres a link to get the tix.

Um, I doubt sharing a birthday is going to get him on there. Do you know how many people on the planet have the same birthday?

Sorry.
I think that you should actually send out a mass mailing to all of CBS employees and express that desire. I have a feeling that would have a profound affect. If it works just say the idea came from Just Gus.

I have a friend at CBS, I will ask her if she has any suggestions as well. She works in the advertising department.
Unless your son is a celebrity, or into something mighty controversial, it might be a lot easier just to ask to meet Letterman, not be on his show. Or, ask to be a participant on one of the silly non-sense skits they do now and then.
He (Letterman) might get a kick out of it also.
Just meeting the man of late night would be great for your son too.
Why not get him tickets to the show. Dave talks to the audience before the show and has a q & a. I doubt if Dave has time to personally meet everyone who wants to meet him. He's a busy guy. My aunt shares the same b'day too.
