Question:

A long shot question for a obscure show, please take a look.?

OK...I’ll try to squeeze out as many details from my memory as I can.

I believe it was a show from the mid or late 80’s, it might have been a Twilight Zone/Amazing Stories type show consisting of different stories. The show I’m looking for had a story about a kid, with the power to make things come to him by yelling “COME” at it. There was a part where he is looking at a stuffed toy from a sales paper, and a moment later he is holding the toy in his arms.

I vaguely remember the kid’s father making him call a knife forward from a text book, which he threatened his wife (kid’s mother) with. I think the father was selfish, and wanted to use the boy, I’m not sure about the mother, I can’t remember anything else, especially the ending. Please help me out, big thanks.

Answers: The Twilight Zone, "The Toys of Caliban"

Read the synopsis here:
An elderly husband and wife live in terror of their son, a retarded boy who has the power to summon anything he can conceive. They are forced to limit what he sees and reads, since anything he summons has to come from...somewhere. When he becomes sick from eating too much summoned food, they take him to a hospital and attract the attention of a social worker, who doesn't know of the boy's power and is shocked at the parents' harsh treatment. The boy inadvertently kills his mother when he sees a picture of a heart in a magazine, and "summons" it out of her chest. Later, as the social worker comes calling, the boy demonstrates his power by summoning his missing mother...who has been two weeks in the grave. As the worker summons the police, the boy's father has him summon an explosion, killing them both rather than have his son fall into the hands of the government.

The story was written by George R.R. Martin, which makes a connection to "Beauty & The Beast", a series Martin wrote for and in which David Greenlee (the boy in the TZ episode) has a recurring role as Mouse, one of the Tunnel dwellers.

I reread your description, and it has references in it that don't sound like this episode although I was certain that this is the correct one. David Greenlee is sort of big-built with blond hair and a rounded face, rather childlike-looking despite his size. In this episode, I seem to recall that he would hold out his hands to the picture, and I thought he did say, "Come!" Perhaps someone else filmed the story or something like it.

This IS it! Visit this link for an even lengthier synopsis that mentions him summoning a dagger!
