Soap Operas?!

Question:

Soap Operas?

My mother and her twin sister loved soap operas. They came from the days of radio, but it appears to be the same today. They could not miss an episode of their favorite soaps and I never understood why. They use to talk about the people like they were real. I think soaps are a waste of time. What do you think? If you don't agree, why do you watch them?

Answers: You know what's funny, before I got into them I thought they were boring. My sister used to watch us and them at the same time and since she was older that's what we had to watch. When I was 12 I was into weddings and one was coming on GH so I thought I'd watch it. Then there was a side story to this charector that made me want to tune in each day till I was hooked.

This is also how a couple of years ago I was watching 8 of the 10 soaps on. I watched half while recording or reading about the other half. I was recording 3.5 hours of soaps a day every day while I worked.

They get addicting like anything else and if you catch one storyline that sounds good you'll find storylines that continue into others.

My brother in law laughs at me and my sister because of the way we talk about the soaps but sometimes they can be better than rl. Source(s):
I followed and/or watched Young and the Restless, Bold and Beautiful, Port Charles, All my children, one life to live, General Hospital, Days of Our Lives and Passions all at one point a few years back. i love the bold and beautiful because its really like its real oh my god stephanie is so mean to brook! i love it im addicted I think its down to peoples craving of knowledge and understanding. These TV shows are produced so people from all walks of life can relate to them. It confronts situations which may really happen and expresses clever way's and stupid way's to deal with them. They also tackle things which real people find difficult to talk about in their immediate social circle and effectively give real good advice. There are some shows though which shouldn't be given the time of day but overall, curiosity is the real reason I think. What will happen next ? How will they move forward from here ? etc etc... Yes, I watch them..I love all that intense DRAMA. I watch soaps. Since I'm only in high school, I have to tape them and watch them later, but I still am a fan.

I think that people like to see how other people live, albiet being purely fictional. But the soaps seem real, like most of them could be happening in any neigborhood anywhere in America. On the other hand, we like to watch them because they are so unlike most of our lives. Most people haven't been married 10 times, with the same man twice or they don't become infected by mysterious diseases that originated in monkeys in Africa.

But generally we watch them because of the constant drama and upheaval of lives. Also, the characters are relatable and for the die-hard fans, the actors and actresses of the daytime soap operas are more real than a major A actress or actor like Tom Cruise or Angelina Jolie. It's really the same as if one is addicted to one of the CSI's or to Desperate Housewives, or Grey's Anatomy. They are all big year long soap operas. The only difference is that the stories on the soaps can continue for months...even years.

Hope this answers your question I've loved watching soap opera ever since I was little. It was so interesting to see how these people live on TV and all the drama that they go through. I think people like to watch them because they're an escape from reality, I mean half the things that happen on soap operas, most of us wouldn't even think that would happen in real life. Are you kidding? I am obsessed with soap operas. Mostly just General Hospital. Its just so good and its filled with all the juicy and intense drama. Soaps are fun, it may seem like people are talking about them like they are real but most of us sane people know the difference.
