Soap Fans: How can you watch Soap Operas and not get irritated by the dragging o!

Question:

Soap Fans: How can you watch Soap Operas and not get irritated by the dragging of the stories?

last soap opera I watched was Passions, and at the time it took the main character (she was spanish) 3 weeks to tell Ethan that she loved him and was carrying his baby.

3 weeks!

mind you that show came on EVERYDAY!

how do you go on watching these types of shows? do you have an incredible amount of patience? lol

Answers: It's impossible not to get irritated. But this is when I tape them and I can FF thru the oarts I don't care about. This way I can 'watch' the whole hour in 15, maybe 20 minutes. I do not watch soap operas anymore due to the fact that story lines are carried on way too long. I don't think it is patience that allows soap fans to watch their shows, I think it is boredom. The only way I get irritated by stoylines that drag on for a very long time is if there is no huge payoff at the end, which has sadly been the case with All My Children lately and seemed to be with One Life To Live until they got their act together over the summer. LOL, I hear you I go weeks without watching All My Children even months and did not miss anything.... Trust me I do get impatient with the dragging on of stories, it is very irritating! I either walk away until something important happens with the story or just watch it anyway and deal with it. actually when soaps drag on i get bored and stop watching for a few wks. which half the time doesnt matter cuz u're still able to catch up. keepin mind soaps arent in real time. sometimes one day could carry into an entire wk if its the climax to a big SL (esp on passions.) i've stopped watching shows like passions, alwt, oltl and gl completely cuz they got boring and were dragging. Y&R drags on to but its sl are good so i always come back. I watch Days regulart but I do have to agree w/ you! That is sooo irretating but hey, its a good way to kill an hour here at work if I get bored! Sometimes I go for months without watching it (my job has a extremly busy and an extremly dead season!) and when I get back to it, it only takes me about 2 days to catch up! Prolly for the fact that they recap EVERYTHING in a "flashback" or a conversation that they have with themselves that NO ONE else seems to be able to hear no matter how close they are!!! You really just need to watch 2 days a week to know what's going on.
A week in soap land.
Mon: Recap cliff hangers from Fri. for most of the show
Tues: Good show, resolve cliffhangers
Wed: Always sucks, nothing happens on Weds.
Thurs: Usually good show, lead up to big Fri. cliff hangers
Fri: Leave us all hanging, no need to really watch, usually Mon. recaps all of Fri. I know . It irritates me too.But i still will watch and complain...
