I beg your pardon, I didn't realise the android in Star Trek was called Geordie LaForge, I always assumes he was DATA and that was his name. I'm on about the one who wears what looks like a third of a crome air filter across his eyes.

I'm on about the one who wears what looks like a third of a crome air filter across his eyes. DATA never wore shades. I think you are getting him mixed up with Geordie LaForge and his Visor.

KITT was a car - Knight Industries Two Thousand.

So, Geordie wore a Visor and KITT has sun visors.

Job done, off to the pub. Geordie wore the visor 'cause he was blind. Data didn't wear it. Androids tend not to go blind on account of their androidiness.

Data-Android

Geordie-Chief Engineer who wears the visor, or 'shades'. Geordies visor lets a blind man see, whilst KITT's scanner lets a machine scan the environment.

Same job for two different entities, one biological, and the other mechanical, and its best if it stays that way please !!

PS Data doesn't wear shades, but his equivalent of eyes would be much closer to Kitt's scanner, except being used on an electrical instead of mechanical machine. Whether it's Data or Geordie though, the relevant device is then being used several hundred years into the (fictional) future from when Knight Rider was set. They have one thing in common, They both picked new abilities to help the script wrights get out of a hole.
