Who else agrees that the last season of Buffy sucked?!

Question:

Who else agrees that the last season of Buffy sucked?

I just bought the seventh season a couple days ago and just got through with it. I dunno...I had watched it before on TV when it first aired, and forgot about it. Now that I've watched the whole series over again, the last season just seems so disappointing.

Anyone else felt that way about it? Or is the series so old that everyone forgot about it? =(

MichaelBuffy: Well you have a good point. I just really didn't like the way things turned out with Anya dying and how Spike ended up. But wow...I thought I was a Buffy fanatic...you beat me by a long shot I'm guessing.

Oh..I do agree. The last two seasons did have some good moments. But overall, I just didn't like the seventh season for the reasons Rose D listed.

Answers:

I really hated the last season. The characters were so twisted and distorted that they were unrecognizable. For me the worst part was that the writers seemed to forget the original point of the series. When it began, Buffy was all about turning cliches on their heads, and about female empowerment. The last season was about justifying and redeeming a rapist (Spike - and the only reason he didn't actually rape Buffy was because she fought back, hard, and was injured in the process), which completely invalidated the first six seasons. It was about Buffy turning on her loyal friends to protect a rapist and murderer, no matter how many people had to suffer and die. It was about women losing power to men and how love makes women do stupid things. The spell that Willow cast was based upon the scythe, and Buffy needed Spike to retrieve it for her instead of being able to do it herself. The message of final season was the opposite of the first seasons, and the show suffered because of it. It left me with a bad taste in my mouth and destroyed my love of the show. The worst part is that I loved Spike in Season 2 - if they'd killed him off then I would have been sad. In retrospect, that would have been the best thing for the character and the show.
