Why do so many good-looking child actors grow up to be ugly adults? Does the reverse apply?

I think that a lot of them are just cute kids, but when they grow up cute is not so important as a guy being masculine and a woman being sexy. The Olson twins still look good and Rich Schroeder is a good looking guy. Ugly usually stays ugly. It does not improve with age. But a mousy looking girl can become very attractive when she physically matures and becomes more confident.
