Is the springfield in the simpsons based on San LUis Obisbo CA!?
i heard that one of the writers went to school there and it was loosely based on San Luis Obisbo California but i never knew.

I can't imagine that's the case. Springfield is supposed to represent every small town in America, that's why they picked the most popular small town name. I remember at least one episode where they teasingly came close to say which state it's supposed to be in. The flavor is more Midwest than California coastal in any case.
(Later) Kentucky may be on target, because they frequently have cousin-marrying hillbillies as characters (no offense intended), and Jedidiah Springfield is portrayed as wearing a Kentucky-type coonskin cap.
