Why did Charlie choose to drown after Patchy blew the window out? Surely he could have either a)Left the door open and swam ut the way he came with Desmond or b)Waited till the room was full of water and swam out of the window?

Good question. It was kinda frustrating b/c i felt like he didnt have to die. But i think he had already made peace with it, and he believed that his death would allow Claire, the baby and everyone to be rescued. I feel like we'll see him again next season (you know how dead ppl are on Lost--they keep showing up again)
