Big brother?

Why does big brother have so many pauses, and if you watch it still how can you stand to watch it, I cannont as I want to hear everything that is said I assume that is the point of the show, not to hear birds chirping? does any one know much about this,

Im taking about the british version

I think they do it so that the viewing figures will be higher for the main BB show, people will tend to watch so they can catch what was blocked out. I do watch live streams but turn over when the silence gets to bad.
