Is it hard to start watching soap operas?
I used to watch young and restless a few years ago.
I want to start watching it again.
Will I understand what is going on?
Will it be hard to like catch up?

No, it shouldn't be. Most soap operas make a lot of references to relevant previous occurrences so you should catch up pretty fast. You can also try looking online for a list of major story lines if you need to. I started watching General Hospital after about a year of missing it and it wasn't that bad. No harder than starting to watch a new soap, I would say.
