Hiya Falco - the 60 min pilot episode "Invasion of the Bane" was shown this year on New Years day on BBC1. The actual series starts on CBBC in September, as I said in the question.

Answers:

I will most certainly be watching "The Sarah Jane" adventures.

I never watched the old series, the new series was what got me so into Doctor Who. Even before seeing "School Reunion" I was excited about the appearance of an old companion (since seeing "Rose" in 2005 and liking the show I did my research on classic Who!), interested to see how they would structure the storyline.

I really did enjoy the episode; great storyline, and Elisabeth Sladen was wonderful as the smart talking independant Sarah Jane Smith - it was clear to me how suitable she was in the role of companion. I was sad to see her leave; she would have been good back on the TARDIS.

I must admit, when I first heard about the spin-off show, "The Sarah Jane Adventures", I was sceptical... I'd heard how badly the first Sarah spin-off "K9 & Company" was received. However, when I tuned into the "Invasion of the Bane", I was pleasantly surprised - a good story with good characters and good acting.

Another reason I will watch TSJA is that Gareth Roberts - who wrote on of my favourite Who novels, "Only Human", and the fantastic series three episode "The Shakespeare Code" - will be writing some episodes.

It's sounding good... will most definately be watching! =)
