Why do we have so many superheroes on tv?!

Why do we have so many superheroes on tv?

growing up, when i wanted to watch superheroes id watch a cartoon, power rangers or wait for a batman movie to come out. nowadays, there are so many superhero, supernatural and psychic programs.

the only idea in mind is that we really want to be that individual and want to stand out. why is this need so important especially in today's culture?

Well, for one thing, this isn't a new fad by any stretch of the imagination! Since the dawn of the comic book era, there has been an overflow of characters that we would consider to be superheroes. Even further back, there would always be some mythical beasts which, if slain, would give the beheader unimaginable power or wealth (for example, the mythical greek creature, Hydra, who could grow back any of its heads and grow and extra one along with it, so long as its entire neck wasn't severed). So this is not (let me reiterate this) new at all! People throughout the eras have needed some person or creature to believe in (bigfoot or the lochness monster are two excellent examples), each with their own abililities. Why does the human race use this vice? There are many theories. One theory takes the psychological route and claims that it is because the brain needs a dependancy on something we cannot see to keep the balance. Another goes philosophical and states that if we did not have heroes, then there would be no motivation for the people to believe in themselves. Yet another simply takes the a protestant approach and says that there is no reason why we DO need superheroes to believe in in the first place, and that they are simply vices on which we gather our imagination. Whichever one of these theories you subscribe to, remember this: no matter which way you look at it, it came from the imagination of someone else for someone else to enjoy, so it is usually simply for entertainment purposes. Personally, the only superhero I need is the almighty father, son, and holy spirit himself!
