Answers:

Wagner would be nowhere near so popular today if he had fallen victim to the notion (prevalent at the time, and still more popular than it should be) that music was "wrong" if it did not resolve to key.

That kind of thinking would also hold that the Impressionists were all bad painters because their work was "out of focus", that photography can't be art because there's no paint, and that "Waiting for Godot" cannot be a play because it has no plot!

Wagner's fondness for a lack of chordal or key resolution is what makes him "Wagnery", LOL!
