Why can't people on 'intervention' be convicted on drug charges?!

Question:

Why can't people on 'intervention' be convicted on drug charges?

I'm just wondering how this reality tv stuff works... I've seen episodes of intervention where people are shown on tv using heroin/cocaine/whatever. Why aren't they ever pursued or convicted of drug charges?

Do they just sign a special release form/immunity kind of thing?

Answers:

Well, the police aren't going to bust into someone's home because they're filming a documentary. Unless they catch you with it or the person who owns the property calls them, they're not going to arrest you. The point of the show is to get these people into treatment, not arrested. (Especially since there's so many drugs in jail.)
