I love this show, and I've got to admit, I like it because of the gross things that man eats and drinks. Although I sometimes imagine that the cameraman that follows him watches him eat raw zebra or squeeze "water" out of fresh elephant dung taunts him by whipping out a big hunk of beef jerky or a zippo when Bear can't light a fire.
As for the stuff he teaches, a lot of it is interesting but unrealistic as I have no intention of ever visiting many of the places he is "stuck" in. What I have learned the most though, is to always carry with me a canteen of fresh water, a large sharp knife, and flint.
As for Survivorman, he lacked the personality that Bear has, but if the two were in a contest, I think he'd beat Bear any day of the week. He at least goes, in most cases, empty handed -no water or flint or camera man there just in case.
