Does anyone know why it takes some tv show dvds so long to come out?

I've been looking for some old show dvd's and all that are in the stores are the 1st seasons but know one seems to know when the next seasons will come out on dvd or is there a website I can go to that tells when they come out.

There are A few reasons. One is some of the music in the shows were only bought for the use in the shows first release (when shown on the original network and not on syndication or DVD). Some of those songs cost 10,000 dollars or more for just that use. The show would then have to pay again to allow it to be used on DVD (sometimes they fix that by changing the song before DVD release). Another reason is the producers or stars have certain deals that were worked into their contract to give them money from the sales of the DVD and must be taken into account before they could decide the price the DVD might be sold for. Many of those issues won't be A problem anymore because the shows that took A long time to come out didn't anticipate the DVD market. New shows like My Name Is Earl, Heroes, The Office and others are prepared for the DVD legal issues and release their show right before the start of the new season.
