In the popular tv show Arthur I have always wondered why muffy crosswire is so rich if her dad is only a used car salesman.

I would understand if he was a little rich. But in the show they make it look like he is one of the richest people in the country.
Answers:
He is the richest man in town (which doesn't say much for the town, I guess). He isn't just a salesman, he is the owner of Crosswire Motors. He is a self-made man though, probably puts all of his profits into shrewd investments, which then make more money.
Then again, it's just a cartoon.
