The TV show ER, does it take place in a real hospital, or in a studio designed as a hospital? Just wondering.
Answers:
The show is filmed on a set, although, I have read that the pilot episode (and perhaps a couple of the initial episodes...I'm not sure) was filmed at the site of an LA hospital that was no longer being used. Shortly afterward the set was built. The show is filmed both in CA (set) and Chicago (e.g. scenes that take place at/on the El (train); exterior shots).
The hospital in the story is based on a real hospital -- Cook County Hospital, in Chicago. Exterior shots of the hospital filmed for ER, however, are actually shots of the hospital at the Univ. of Illinois.
