JOHN FROM CINCINNATI fans, HELP ME ! Can someone out there tell me what this show is really about??
I really like the surfing parts (which we are seeing less and less) and I am really trying to understand this show, but truthfully, it's hurts my hair !! Especially after Sun 7/15 show and John went into that long speech about WHAT?? Am I missing something real important here ??

This show seems to have even more layers and more of the wonderful blending of high language with foul language that marked Milch's previous show Deadwood.
As near as I can figure John is a Christ Figure, the men surrounding him are shaping into the 12 apostles, Sean (I hate the idea that we cannot spell a simple Irish name correctly Shaun is not a name it is a sound you make when you yawn) the kid is Lazarus. I think the guy from the surfer magazine Logan will be Judas, though that could also be Butchie. The women are taking on some of the roles of the females in the Bible story. The Grandmother is a warped verison of Mary and the girl from the surfing magazine Mary Magdalene.
The long speech was to set the stage for the next series of events, including the coming together of Bill (the Cop) who I suspect is Matthew the Tax Collector working for the government and the Thug from Hawaii (who would be Simon the Zealot an outlaw).
It is far and away the most confusing show on TV, weather it rises above its confusion and becomes like Deadwood was the best show on TV remains to be seen. Unlike Deadwood it is cheaper to produce so that may give them more time to develop the show and it does not have to live in the shadow of the Sopranos like Deadwood did
