Did I miss the part about picking the funniest on Last Comic Standing?

Because I must be missing something I found the Cat Lady Mildly humorous at best, leaning more towards the "non-funny" side. And, the woman from Europe with a horribly deep voice managed to make me laugh a total of 0 times. Of course I don't remember everyones names but I thought the guy with the pulled back dreadlocks (or whatever that hairstyle was) was hilarious of course he didn't make it. And, the first guy and his frantic pace was also funny but nope he didn't make it. So am I missing something here about the "funny"?

Every year I'm amazed at who goes though and who doesn't. You'd think I'd know by now that they never pick the 5 funniest, but I still cheesed every season. I have several theories:

1.) The producers have really crappy taste, and think America does too.

2.) The producers already have decided well in advance of the semis as to who is going on. The semis are really just two weeks of filler.

3.) Optimistically speaking, each comic does a longer routine than we see at home. Maybe they see something that we can get from just the high points.

4.) More realistically, they are going for a balance of "styles" that includes at least 3/5ths stupid.

5.) They choose by playing rock, scissors, paper.
