What happened to Jamie, Archie's brother? I knew he had a sister but not a brother too!

He was the great hope of the family, he and Archie went out on the loch in a boat and something happened between them, roughhousing and the like, and Jamie fell overboard. Even though he was a decent swimmer, he drowned. That was a lot of the tension between Archie and Hector, the blame felt by Archie, that is should have been him and also by Hector who felt that Archie was somehow responsible and/or it should have been him instead of Jamie. Archie never quite lived up to Hector's expectations and Archie played to that holding the estate in contempt (instead of his father).
