Are the Nielsen ratings still an accurate way to measure TV viewing?!

Question:

Are the Nielsen ratings still an accurate way to measure TV viewing?

With today's digital technology, isn't it possible for cable and satellite providers to accurately measure what EVERY subscriber household watches at all times?

I think a lot of good shows are getting canceled because the "selected Nielsen viewers" aren't watching them. I wonder if, now that it's possible to measure a much larger set of viewers, we should do just that.

What are your thoughts?

Answers:

I think they should do it like they did on Max Headroom. Have a monitor in the board room to constantly measure rankings. They could tell the minute that Max got on the air that ratings jumped.

I think instant feedback measured over the span of 1 month could give you a pretty good idea if the show what HOT or SNOT!
