How come some people make fun of programs that try & teach kids values?

I've heard them mock out older ones such as the Waltons or Little House on the Prarie. Walker Texas Ranger always had lessons to be learned or issues such as bigotry, drugs, white slavery, etc. & all I ever hear about that program is jokes. Touched by an Angel people say was sappy.
