Bodhi_Angel- Sometimes you can combine the two... ever play wet-behind-the-ears, uncertain ensign taken under the wings of the large, powerful security chief? ;D

Connie- Way to lump a lump of thousands of people into one category! Why so angry? There are plenty of "Trekkies" who aren't nerds, first of all. And what's wrong with admiring a show that inspires, gives hope for the future, appeals to intellectuals, and that has been running for 40 years?

I love nerds and geeks. And not that I'm blowing my own horn (no jokes, fellas), but I'm a hot chick who LOVES Star Trek, your sterotypes be damned.

I have learned from Star Trek many things, but I think the most outstanding are:

Harm no one... unless they are about to destroy you.

Androids are cool.

Stick to your beliefs, they'll guide you home.

Everyone f!@#$s up.

Be tolerant, find the joy in knowing, and love everyone... even Connie Curious.

The captain is always right... unless they are being controlled by an evil life form.

Omnipotence is boring.

Holodecks are awesome.

Space is truly a vast and amazing frontier... but the final frontier is within ourselves.

Answers:

It is taught me my humanity...

That is...it helped to shape my concerns for the welfare of others, and not just myself...

examples...In The Next Generation episode, "Lessons"...we see the Captain(Picard) struggle with the "on the job romance"(in a very compelling and entertaining episode, I might add) with Nella Daren, a Starfleet officer in Stellar Sciences, who shares his love of music. He is forced to send her on a dangerous mission because of her special expertise, and suffers incredible loss and pain when he hears that she has died during the mission. Upon her safe return, Picard realizes that he is incapable of carrying out a relationship with someone under his command. He fulfills his duty to Commander Daren and requests a transfer. She leaves, but urges Picard not to give up playing the Ressikan flute.(which in itself is an amazing play on the human ability to adapt to culture)

Or perhaps a lesson can be learned from OTHER species in life, too....examples would be Truth/logic (Vulcans), love/empathy (Betazoids), courage/honor (Klingons)....

In my humble opinion, an amazing wealth of knowledge of ourselves can be learned from this amazing science fiction franchise!
