Bear Grylls or Les Stroud?

question; who is the better survival expert; bear grylls or les stroud? les is by himself for a week with like a ton of camera equipment and has to make shelters and fires and survive without anything but his multi tool and whatever random stuff he finds. bear grylls as to find his way out of wherever he's been dropped, but he has a flint that could start a fire with a pile of sand and he has a full blade poket knife and canteen, plus a full camera crew with him. granted bear does tend to put himself in stupid situations to show the veiwer how to get out. personally, i think les stroud owns bear every day. he's way more resourceful and he has to make due with less and has to carry his own camera gear. but thats just me, and im glad les is getting another season on discovery.

Stroud is the better expert for the average person in average health who find him or herself in a dire situation. He doesn't take extreme chances or try the heroic way out of trouble.

Grylls is in peak, near-super heroic condition. He is a trained, special-forces operative more akin to our idea of James Bond that Grizzly Adams. He takes a lot of risks for the sake of the camera (climbing down a waterfall). The average person in the average survival situation could not and probably should not do as he does.

But I think that the most important factor is the psychological crutch Grylls has in taking a crew with him. Stroud is alone in the wild, and both Bear and Les will tell you that the most important factor surviving in the wild or during a disaster is keeping your spirits up; staying busy, lighting fires, etc.

Bear is entertaining but I would rather have Les along during a hike. Also, who just HAPPENS to find themself on a lava field???
