Can someone tell me briefly the ''lost'' series on abc about like what happened?

With this show, there is either really brief, or way convoluted; there is no real middle ground. For really brief... An airplane split apart in midair due to an electromagnetic event, causing one half of the plane to land on one part of a mysterious island and the other half to land on another part. The diverse group of people who survived are trying to find a way off of the island, but they have encountered many anomalies and obstacles, including the people who were already living on the island before they crashed.
