Gilmore Girls. First off, the acting is amazing, with the cast (particularly Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop) constantly on critics dream Emmy ballots (not that the Emmy people noticed, as it was on the WB/CW). Secondly, the characters are much more compelling and complex. They aren't stereotypes, but rather fully realized characters with both good attributes and flaws. Third, the writing is far superior. The dialog is frequently amazing, and the plots are funny and poignant at the same time.
Honestly, there really is no contest. One Tree Hill might be fun to watch, a guilty pleasure, but it doesn't come near to the quality of Gilmore GIrls, even in its not-so-good sixth season.
