The reason I ask is because the sweeping shots of Miami and the sweeping shots of Las Vegas seem like they're done in a different style...as do the actual scenes in the shows. I'm not a photographer so it is difficult to describe what it is I'm tyring to say but the Las Vegas shots seem clear while the Miami shots seem slighty more ethereal.

Well, I would think that the answer to that would be no. It takes a lot of effort to turn out each of the shows. That means while the shows are in production, it takes the concentrated effort of all crew members to turn out each episode.
I imagine that after all these years, they have the shooting schedules down to a science, but it must take at least one week to turn out each episode.

Yes and no. Lots of the second unit photography -- such as those sweeping shots of the Vegas strip and colorful neon lights -- is shot on location in Las Vegas. Occasionally the cast will shoot in Vegas when the script requires it. Otherwise, the series is filmed at the *Santa Clarita Studios, which is part of a complex of eight soundstages, in Valencia, California. It's located here but is a closed set. California locations are substituted for Las Vegas locations as well. As a brief side note, CSI was first filmed at the Lockheed facility at Rye Canyon. After the first 11 episodes, and a successful renewal, the series moved to the Valencia facility.

As for Miami Vice all I can find on the net says the same thing "due to cheaper production costs, the majority of the series are shot on sound stages in California, with only outside shots being done in Miami/Dade"
So I guess, after all that work trying to find out an answer to your question, my answer has to be I DON'T KNOW!
It just seems like it would be impossible because of the actual time required to produce each, but I may be wrong.
