Lost took a break over the Christmas period after the first 6 episodes which were aired in Oct-Nov 2006.
It picked up from episode 7 again in Feb 2007 and ended in May 2007.
So they did air the whole series, just in 2 parts separated by 2-3 months which is where it sounds like you got Lost!
If you want to catch up and can wait till then, the DVD should be out 22 Oct 2007 according to amazon.
