I haven't watched it since season 2, but I was wondering what ultimately happened to Dr. Burke? Did they replace Issah Washington or kill off his character?

On June 7, 2007 ABC announced they had decided not to renew Washington's contract, and that he would be dropped from the show.
Last episode of season 3, "Didn't We Almost Have It All?" aired May 17, 2007 was his last taping. Below is what happened.
At the wedding, Burke comes to the realization that Cristina has been changing so much for him because she loves him so much. He feels that if he really loved her for who she is, and not who he wants her to become, he would let her go. With this epiphany, he decides to call off the wedding, leaving Meredith to make the announcement. Cristina returns to the apartment she shares with Burke and finds out he has left with all the possessions he treasures.
