X-Files fans?!

Question:

X-Files fans?

So I was just wondering, out of you people that are X-Files fans (I don't want to hear from those of you that aren't, saying things like, "that show sucks" or "haha i just got 2 points" with your all lowercase letters) how many of you liked the later seasons? As in, seasons 5, 6, and 7. 8 and 9 were OK, but I don't think they were anyone's favorites. And what is your favorite episode? My favorite is Hollywood A.D. and I don't care what you say, I thought it was funny. But I love them all.

Answers:

Personally, I thought season 5 wasn't bad at all, but after the movie and the move to L.A., I thought it really started to go downhill. I guess season 6 wasn't that bad (it wasn't that good either though), but I really felt like season 7 was a slap in the face -- everything about that season felt really forced and abrupt, and what really got to me was how they had built up this whole mythology behind Samantha's disappearance in the previous six seasons, only to just end it by saying she was already dead without any room for doubt.

Now, I will say this, though, I think season 8 was pretty damn good: I really like Doggett's character and how they set up the transition to him (although Mulder's absence still left me with an almost empty kind of feeling), and I think it was their best season since the fourth. I also think that the season 8 finale should have been the series finale -- don't get me wrong, season 9 was alright, but I just never really felt any sort of connection to Reyes, plus the trial scene in "The Truth" was really lame, although I did like the last half of the episode and the ending.

I'm really not sure I could say that any individual episode was my favorite (although I did like "Memento Mori" a lot), but I think the block of "Anasazi"-"The Blessing Way"-"Paper Clip" would have to be my favorite combination, just because so much is said and put forward in these three episodes that it gives them a certain level of power.

I don't know about everyone else, but X-Files was probably my favorite TV series (after West Wing of course), and I really miss it. Let's just hope they don't bungle the next movie (if it actually does get made).
