Question: Why is it that some internet radio stations in the US can be listened to from outside the U!.S!.!.!.!?
while others cannot!? The ones that cannot make it sound like there's this law to protect national security etc!. etc!. while others simply broadcast!. Is it actually just a matter of payment for licensing masked as something else!?Www@Enter-QA@Com


Answers:
Nothing to do with the FCC!. Basically stations in the states have to pay royalty fees for using music so
1- they won't have a foreign government saying they owe fees for music heard in their country
2- keep costs down by having people outside the country listen (and who would usually keep the connection and stream going longer not really able to sell ads to than say a normal listener the station can make money off of showing ads)
3- keeps the number of streams needed lower as you don't have as many people tying it up possibly

Most foreigners tend to stay on a few popular websites and usually the policies that the radio companies use on these stations are used across the company in a cost savings!.!. Clear Channel is famous for this
