What is independent radio?!
Question: What is independent radio!?
My teacher suggested I write my paper on independent radio!. I already wrote a paper on internet radio such as pandora!.com and last!.fm, but my teacher wants me to incorporate Sirius XM satellite radio as well!. What exactly is independent radio!. is satellite radio independent!? thanks for the help !Www@Enter-QA@Com

Satellite Radio is independent because they are exercising their constitutional rights (mainly the 1st amendment)!. Sirius/XM have uncensored radio which makes them independent!.

As a public corporation backed by some very BIG players and a big company that is about to lay off hundreds of people, XM/Sirius is one of the more DEPENDENT entities in radi (so I'd ask Maddog and your teacher to rethink that one ;<)
But they are UNCENSORED (perhaps the two are being categorized under the same definition)!.
Independent simply means "not part of a group!." Usually it's a single-owner station; or a college station that is not under the direct control of the faculty!. There are many stations that, for marketing purposes, refer to themselves as independent, yet are indeed owned by a big group!.
Anyone can call themselves independent!. Whether or not it's percveived as an independent station by listeners involves their general approach to their community and their content!.
If the station broadcasts music, the kind of music (smaller, maybe unsigned acts) is important!. For a talk format, you wouldn't have Rush Limbaugh or Oprah!. You'd probably have local teachers, students and activists doing it for fun and the love of free speech, most often at little or no pay!.

In my View, Satalite Radio is comercial radio for sell like AM or FM Radio Like I have a personal radio stream JB87YPR Radio and I play station promo's, Live365 Promo's and Shoutcast Promo's BUT I bon't make 1 cent of money I pay for it all the servers and the like so my stream or station is Independent Radio to me!.
