well, first everything Radioboy said is true!.!.!.and more!. The money in radio all goes to the salespeople(who sell the time)!.!.Plus, as you get better and better at what you're doing, they'll make more and more money for what (you) do to make the station better sounding!.(that's frustrating considering that traditionally!.!. they'll get the $ rewards and chances are you won't)!.!.Only in bigger markets will you make the big $$!.!.!.!.that takes expericnce at stations at the bottom, doing every crap job they can sell!.!.!.weekend work, overtime(and chances are no overtime pay---"dont ask me how they get by with it!?")!.!.!.!.Your best bet is to put in some time doing the grunt work at stations and get really good and creative with your commercial writing and production, then once you've got people running to YOU for production 'cause it's good--either make a deal that your creativity has a price! Ask for more $ for commercials they can't get anywhere else outside of an agency!.!.!.better yet, get good enough to start your own ad agency or go to work for someone who has one!.!.!.!.bottom line, radio (I guess) can still be fun!.!.but I warn you!.!.when it ceases to be fun!.!.get out and get a real job,or better yourself someplace else!.////good luck! And remembeer!.!.!.once you DO get good at what your doing-you are a commodity!.!.market yourself wisely and remember it's a cut throat business!.!.if you don't look out for you, NOBODY is going to look out for you!. Only invest part of your loyalty to a company!.!.put most of it in yourself!. **you'll know when you're good enough to move on 'cause other stations will call you instead of the other way around!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

The average DJ's pay isn't great!.

Small market pay sometimes may not be much better than minimum wage!.

Back in 2002, I was hired to bring a struggling AM station out of near-bankruptcy for a whopping $8 an hour!. That's poor pay for the amount of work it took!.!.but I guess I enjoyed the challenge!. It took two years, but I did it!. Once the station had its billing up, I was ready to do something else!.!.$8 an hour isn't much of a carrot over the long term!.

On the other hand, big companies/stations with better budgets can pay more, and will, if you have what they're looking for!.

Being that you are just thinking about getting into radio, you'll most likely be at the low end of the pay scale!.

Be advised!.!.there is no job security!. You can have the best radio job, then!.!.poof!.!.gone the next day!. The folks in radio know, as they either have already gone through this, or they will go through this!.

It's a roller coaster!.!.but if the radio bug bites, you'll never get rid of it!. That's what happened to me!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Sorry, no answer from me!. But i'd like to add that i too am interested in broadcasting!. And am curious to know the answer!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
