Will XM and Sirius ever become one?????? I received notice back in August and ha!
Question: XM and sirius will never become one company or merge. This is because if those 2 HUGE companies merge the wil have a lot of control and it is dangerous because that will mean that radio is almost a " monopoly " and then they can charge you as much as they want because no one else will be producing radio's. Also the government will not allow it because of the risk. Just look at con Edison, they have a monopoly and they cost SOOOOOOOO much!!!!

The merger has passed the Department of Justice but now they will have hearings from the FCC.
mhm I agree with islapshot888, hes right. They'll never be one beacuse if they have no competition, they can just keep raising the price.
companies merge all the time. Sometimes not for the better service, just for the money. It can be bad for the consumer.

They are expected to merge once the FCC and the attorney generals of 13 states get their way, however they are supposed to be under tight price control for 3 years, and market influence after that. The market will dictate how much people will pay and with wi-fi coming out as well as Clear Channel trying to lobby the FCC to force xm/sirius to give bandwidth space for a competing system. I expect the prices to pretty much stay the same or keep up with occasional spikes like cable has done over years.
Department of Justice just approved it. Usually the FCC will approve if they do. Hopefully it will be soon.
