Does anyone actually ENJOY Paul Harvey's snoozefest ?!

Question: That guy needs to retire like yesterday. Does ANYONE enjoy him ? And by ''enjoy'' I don't mean use his broadcast as a sleep aid.

Paul Harvey is popular in small towns and in rural areas, and America still has plenty of both. There are more people who listen to Paul Harvey than you would imagine.

I do. He has some interesting facts on his "Rest of the Story" program. Lighten up dude. I'm sure there's something you like that I don't.

Paul is an icon. You're just a dweeb on Yahoo ;<) And I say that in the nicest possible way.

Do you think you can do what he does? Can you maintain a loyal audience for 50 or so years? Can you set up a syndication empire that virtually guarantes his family will continue the business he started, with his son at the mike.

Oh, and deliver interesting newscasts and features day after day that generate profits for himself, his affiliate stations and his advertisers (who are incredibly grateful to him for the business he's driven their way over the years)? Can you do all that and be a nice man who's given away much of his fortune to worthy causes?

When you can answer "yes" to even half of the above, you may have earned the right to criticize - not until.

Duh has the answer. Paul Harvey is one of the most succesfull radio shows in history. He is still going strong when his detractors have dropped out. Even in the big cities (I live in Las Vegas, a top 30 Market) he is strong. Years ago when I was an Air Force Electronics instructor I used to have one room where I taught that had several receivers. I would let people study for 15 minuts before the daily quiz, and had Paul Harvey's noon news on the radio. No-one ever complained.

Pretty much as others have said, he is very popular with a group of people who like his small town news style delivery no matter what size town even though his main audiences is smaller cities and town in the south and the midwest where listeners are more conservative and receive his style of commentary the best.

But name me a almost 90 year old still in radio who brings in the numbers and money this man does to ABC radio network that they signed a 10 year $100 Million contract in 2000 with a 82 year old?!?!!??!? (Stern signed a 5 year contract for $100 M but who can say he will get that when he's that old)
