Jobsite radios with satellite radio?!
Question: My boyfriend has been wanting a jobsite radio that he can get the XM, satelite radio to..... I want to get it for him for his birthday but I have no idea how this all works or what to buy, he said he needs some subscription or something?! He has no idea I might get it for his birthday so I cant ask him any questions... Help!

I'm not sure what you mean by "jobsite radio" - do you mean something he can listen to at work?
It will all depends on where he is going to use it, whether he needs a portable radio or one to put in a "boombox"
I subscribe to Sirius radio. Basically I purchased their Stiletto 100 and called to activate the subscription (about $12 a month). The radio I have can go in the car kit in the car (with a cord to the stereo's AUX IN as well as an antenna that magnetically sticks to the back hood of my car and is routed through to the front).
The radio I have also lets you walk around outside with special headphones that have an antenna in them to boost the ability to receive the satellite signal.
I believe XM has some similar products as well. The only problem is, if you're indoors - you won't get a signal. If you're outdoors, trees may block your signal on the portable.
If he gets one with a boombox (where you insert the radio into it to use the features), it usually comes with an antenna that you can adjust, if it will be in one place.
Satellite radio can be a little tricky when taking it anywhere else but your car or your home (if you get a good signal there).
I would only be able to give a very specific recommendation if I knew where you boyfriend will use the radio.

Yes, a subscription is required for either XM or Sirius satellite radio. The equipment is NOT interchangeable. Equipment is reasonable, subscription will cost more over time.
I got Sirrius radio for my husband & he loves it. He drives a lot so I got the one he plugs into his car. I think there is now one that is more portable & uses batteries & has speaker rather than the car battery & speakers.
Once you have the radio you need to subscribe to the service to actually hear anything. Kind of like having tv without having cable otherwise. They are sold almost anywhere that has electronics but I got mine at Radio Shack & was verry happy with it.
Both XM & Sirrius work the same but some things you can only get on one & not the other. My husband got Sirrius because he wanted to hear football games. If your boyfriend asked specifficaly for XM than you should probably get that for him.
