What is local radio like in your area?!

Question: I was just wondering if all local radio is as bad as it is in the west of Scotland, where I live. All the DJs play the same old music from the 70's and 80's and all have really **** phone in quizzes. Is that what local radio is like where you live?

it's called fosseway radio, and it is shite

just the same with loads of crappy adverts

Well, I actually like Nevis Radio.

yes is bad too in the southwest the local radio is something just for the news and old ladies music

I live in Toronto, we have a multitude of Radio stations in the area, two predominate hip hop stations (that unfortunately are coming closer to the same styles), 2 or 3 dominate classic rock stations (which MUCH variation), 3-5 light rock stations, and 2 or 3 hard rock stations.

Theres also a load of country, a couple classicals and various others.

Play good music but dj's are like children.Radio Clyde up there
isn't bad.Listen on freeview.

Live in orlando, Fl....USA, it's pretty good but they took my fav sports talk and made it DAMN SPANISH!!! Hate the hispanic invasion of america!!! Errrgghhh!! p.s. u guys have great golf courses!!!

Cant beat TFM it plays what ever music u want, u can go to their website and click on all the music u love to hear and thats what it plays.

TFM covers teesside co. durham and hartlepool

I'd say pretty good here in East Anglia. My only complaint would be the crap prizes they dish out - my mothers' latest win was a cassette tape of It Ain't Half Hot, Mum to listen to!!! Where did they dig that up from?

i live in teesside and TFM is absolutely fantastic.

mint presenters who are really funny and play whatever you want them to,

they do a phone in late on a night which is hilarious, has me laughing so much!

you cant beat it!

'96.6.....TFM!!!!!'

Well I live in small town Alberta, Canada and the closest city has 2 radio stations. One plays rock - old to present and it's okay. The other station is a country station and as I have gotten to like new country it is okay, nothing fantastic. The only thing I can be grateful for is that we don't have any rap or hip hop, they know better than to play that in "redneck" country, ha, ha.
I'm more likely to play cd's at home and only listen to the radio in vehicles.

My fave radio station is fly fm.i love them but there's one thing i hate about them like they are like, late to plays latest songs like Chris Brown's You,MCR's Mama,Kate Nash's Pumpkin Soup. if i wanna hear latest songs i'll just listen to hitz.fm,malaysia's #1 english radio station.

I only lission to the Bush and Troy show as its the best thing going on my local radio other then that I don't lession to the radio at all.

I live just outside Edinburgh in Scotland and I listen to forth one. A good mix of music, funny DJ's and fantastic competitions every now and again.

In Atlanta it's hard to get away from all the Hip-Hop and Rap, it's depressing actually for those of us who actually have ears and can hear how bad that kind of music is. There are 2 or 3 Indie/Alt Rock stations, 99X is the best, well... they are pretty good.

Would a radio station broadcasted across a state be considered local?
If so, brilliant.
Absolutely hilarious.

oh no buddy the radion stations here are good. you can listen to most of them online like g105.1 or 102.1jamz they are the best radion stations that i have ever heard.

Hi there.
that is a very accurate description of 90% of the stuff down here in Merseyside. BBC Radio Merseyside has some occasional odd good stuff and we get some good football coverage down here, but that is about it.
I stick to Radio 4 and classic FM these days.
Cheers, Steve.

Small town radio in the US is probably pretty much as you have it. Younger jocks learning their craft and experimenting with what works and what doesn't. Gotta have the minor leagues in order to have talent for the big markets.

BTW It's not the jocks who are to blame for the music (99% of the time) it's the Program (or programme) Director, Music Director or some other management combination trying to generate as many listeners as posible while blowing off the fewest. So they have a tendency to put out a music rotation that guarantees a hit song when the short-term listener tunes in... and most listeners don't lisen for long periods of time.
-a guy named duh

I agree with Duh that people used to listen to stations in big cities as they were the best of the best... However since the 1980s and 1990s that has flipped and the big cities have become a cookie cutter wasteland where program/music directors under orders of a "consultant" play safe bets in music so that listeners aren't "offended" and leave for another station.. (even thought say in that city, there is no one else playing that format)

I can catch radio from 4 cities and many community stations along the way. The smaller the city, usually the better the music variety and such however the DJ may not be a professional.... I can critique all of what I hear, but basically DJs sound more professional on major market stations, whereas the music variety is better on smaller market stations (I know of a few of the major market players who moved to the sticks and their shows are awesome)

And to the guy saying he loves 99x in Atlanta.... better get HD radio.. 99x is being pulled as we speak off the air... Next week on the 25th it will be top 40 on 99.7

We have LBC Talk Radio. It's the best! Try listening online if you can't get it on your radio. If you can, it's on 97.3 FM.
