Why does Sirius have commercials on the Sirius NFL channel?!

Question: And lots of them too, it's ridiculous. I paid good money for "commercial-free" and I have to listen to more commercials, more often, than on my local AM sports talk channel. How do they get away with this? I know they say "commercial free music channels" only but still, it's very misleading. Everyone who rides in my car says "but I thought they didn't have commercials?" Yeah and I try to justify them but these people are right, we're being ripped off.

the reason their are commercials on the sports channel is because 1 the hosts do need a break every now and then and 2 sirius paid a good chunk of change to get the NFL and is trying to recoupe some of the cost of obtaning it.
Most of the talk stations on sirius have commercials but they are limited. I dont know if id go as far to say their advertising is misleading because ever ad ive seen has alwasy stated commercial free music. I dont think were being riped off because sirius has great programing and i think its well worth $11.00 a month i pay

I've never heard the Sirius NFL channels but usually most of these groups who relay on the internet and for instance Sirius use the feed going to the area radio stations of a team (that broadcasts the home team) that is playing a game.

So basically all you are paying for is the right to hear the feed clearer and in most cases outside the normal market range of a football team (such a listening to the Patriots radio network in Chicago for instance normally couldn't happen without paying for it)..So technically you get to hear the commercials that the football network spot loads anyway...

Yes, Sirius doesn't broadcast the NFL games, they simply tie into the local teams (usualy AM) broadcast, so that is how for most games you can get both teams play-by-play and during the games, you will hear the local citys ads. I listen to Dolphins games all the time and always hear ads for local Miami places, kinda cool if you ask me. But there's no way to not have commericals during games, unles you would perfer the just give sirius static during the citys ads

but the day I hear an ad on the music channels is the day I cancel my subscription

First, the game broadcasts are designed to have commercials inserted (they are carrying the commercial radio feed), so they have to plug something in the hole.

Second, satellite radio will eventually have to air some sort of sponsor package to cover their operating expenses and make a financial return to investors. Even the music channels (some XM music stations right now) will air commercials in the future, that or the monthly fee will increase drastically.
