I never thought I'd have the chance to air my knowledge of this piece of music but it takes me back to my much younger days of the 1940's and 1950's when it was used as the signature tune of "Housewives' Choice" which was a record request programme for housewives (obviously) who in those glorious, far-off days, weren't forced to go out to work to pay for things which were not really necessary!! It ran from Mondays to Fridays each week from 9.00 am until 10.am and guest presenters from showbiz acted as DJ's, altho' in those days they were called "comperes." Requests were played which had been asked for by "housewives" or on their behalf by friends or family, sometimes for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. My Auntie Doris had "When somebody thinks you're wonderful" by, I think, Nat King Cole, played for her birthday in about 1955.
Sometime later, the Saturday slot, was given to "Children's Choice" when such memorable songs as "The Runaway Train," "You're a red toothbrush, I'm a blue toothbrush" and "Puff the Magic Dragon" were played as requests for children.
Ah, those were the days!!!

before my time this sorry
