What it like being a radio annoucer?!
Question: Its like Fun, I've been working with Radio for a long time, not as an announcer but I saw them enjoying there job very well. It makes you famous too(of course, if people could enjoy your presentations), but also require hard work and understanding capabilities to others.

Wasn't an announcer per say but (I) was on radio twice (2Hrs) as a guest on a phone in talk show - talking about my occupation - at that time - driving snow removal equipment on Provincial Highways.
(I) enjoyed doing it, the radio, it was fun.
You would need good interpersonal skills to do that Job, Host of a Phone in talk show, similar to being a radio announcer - good voice - needed.
boring as hell, you sit in a hot cubicle all day listening to links & a jingle to fire in before you start. in between the times you are live you write the script of what your going to say. queing in announcements into an automated playout system like myriad http://www.psquared.net/what-is-myriad.h...
you end up like a hermit and hardly ever see the people you are on air with.

Funny... has the closest to the real-deal answer. 99% of jox have to follow a very strict format and play the same songs over and over. You read from cue cards, rarely get to do your own schtick and have to deal with a program director who's afraid you're trying to steal his job.

PS: There are moments when its a lot of fun, those are mostly outside the station - the actual drudgery of on-air work (unless you're a major talent) is pretty boring after the first few months in most situations.
BUT, once in every career comes a really great opportunity where everything comes together. The staff gets along, the PD is terrific, the station sounds great, the money's ok, you can't wait to get to work and the ratings are thru the roof. THAT's te one to look for or aspire to.
