Why do BBC Radio1 play the same music over and over all day long every day?!

Question: I'm forced to listen to Radio1 at work, I'v noticed that they keep repeating the same songs over and over again, sometimes twice within one hour, I'v even heard Chris Moyles say that he's only playing *insert song here* because he's contracted to play it and not because he likes it, I'nv also observed that they don't often play songs that A) Are older than 3 months old, and )B arn't in the top 40 chart
Why is this?
Is it because they are paid to plug/promote certain records?
If yes, is that not a form of advertising- something that the BBC arn't supposed to do?

people tune in at different times, so say if they tune in for bout an hour n dont hear a popular song, they will wonder why :)

Money from advertising and the record labels.

At my last job they had radio 1on all day...i hated it...so i use to put my earphones on my walkman (yes im old i have a walkman) and listen to my own music...but i did have a job where i could do this.

I agree...Its quite annoying to hear the same music all day and every day...To be honest the songs that i like I'm beginning not to like as its getting on my nerves listening to it Too many times....Sort it out Radio one...Change ya Tune... :)

my local radio stations are like that too. i drive for a living and its like they have 1CD that lasts 3 hours and then the songs are on again almost in the same order

It's called playlisting.

A,B,C list; A gets the most plays then B and so on....

Pretty pathetic to keep hearing the top 10 on rotation as anybody who likes the damn songs will already have bought them and anybody with a slight interest will have been long tired of hearing those tracks, thereby negating the possibility of someone buying the tune as they're sick to death of it.

Since Johnny Beerling left as R1 controller, old(er) music has gradually been expelled from the station meaning even more reliance on the same empty, boring, talentless shyte that passes for 'music' these days.....

As a Day-long listener, you are an exception.

Most people listen for short periods of time. When they listen they want to hear the hits. Thus... draw your own conclusion. Use your iPod, CD player or bring a laptop to work and listen to the great variety the internet offers.

BTW, this has been the #1 complaint since I started in the biz in 1965.

This is because its the biggest UK station, therefore they are forced to play the most popular music at the time! Its only daytime though up till 7 after that theres lots of different generes
